About Omnilux Light Therapy
By cfleming1
Light therapy involves the use of different kinds of light to treat various physical problems or conditions. The light can be visible to the human eye (i.e. within the visible spectrum) or it can be non-visible as in the case of ultraviolet light. Sometimes called phototherapy, light therapy is used to treat sleep problems, acne problems, mood disorders, and more.
Light, especially sunlight, has long been known to have healing powers, but it wasn't until the 1980's that science began discovering how specific wavelengths of light could have specific positive effects on human physiology, especially the skin. For instance, today narrowband light is used to treat several skin conditions like acne, psoriasis, eczema, and vitiligo. And light therapy has also found its way into the cosmetic world as an effective method for skin rejuvenation.
Omnilux Therapy and Skin Rejuvenation
The idea behind all skin rejuvenation techniques is to slow down or temporarily reverse the effects of aging. Omnilux red light therapy does that by directly working on one of the primary aging effects – diminished collagen creation. Collagen is an important protein in the body because it provides texture and shape to our skin.
But as we age our collagen levels naturally decrease leaving our skin less smooth and more prone to lines, wrinkles, and sagging. And as if aging weren’t enough, prolonged exposure to the sun can also speed up this process. But Omnilux light therapy attacks the problem by stimulating the cells that synthesize collagen.
It does this by using a combination of infrared and visible red light. The light reaches the deeper skin tissue and stimulates the cells that produce collagen into a more active state. The result is an increase in collagen production and overall levels. That increase, smoothes lines, improves tone, and leaves our skin looking younger.
But How Safe is it?
The light used in Omnilux therapy has no UVA (long wave) or UVB (medium wave) radiation. Therefore, sunburn and other related problems are not an issue. The light is of course quite bright so special goggles are worn during treatments to protect the eyes.
There is no pain associated with an Omnilux treatment and no special creams, injections, or preparations are needed to receive one. Patients merely sit or lie under the light for 20 to 30 minutes at a time and walk away with no harmful side-effects. They can immediately apply makeup or other topical applications to their skin if desired because their skin isn’t damaged or sensitive.
Omnilux light therapy treatments can be taken even after other kinds of treatments like microdermabrasion or normal facials. There’s no need for any recovery time. In fact, the anti-inflammatory benefits of the light therapy and the boost in collagen levels provided by Omnilux can even enhance these other types of treatments.
Hand-Held vs. Office Treatment
Omnilux light therapy devices can be found in Dermatologist offices everywhere. There are now also hand-held devices available for use in the home as well - one for skin rejuvenation and one for acne treatments. But there is a difference between what you get in the doctor's office versus what you can get by doing it yourself.
In the first place a Dermatologist or Esthetician’s office device will be more powerful than any hand-held device. Therefore office treatments will provide more dramatic and faster results. But at the same time, those office visits will be expensive – probably $100.00 or more per visit. And you’ll probably require six or eight treatments initially to jumpstart the collagen production. That’s a little pricey.
On the other hand, you can achieve some good results using a hand-held device on your own schedule in your own home. It requires more patience and discipline to be sure, but the results are attainable. And it will cost considerably less money.
Younger Skin
Omnilux is a light-only skin treatment that’s totally non-invasive. It works on any skin type and is suitable for any adult – no matter how old they are. Also, it requires no drugs, applications, or special preparations. Before receiving a treatment for instance, a person needs only to remove all makeup and cleanse the face lightly. That’s it.
How many treatments anyone will need to improve their skin will depend on their age and skin condition. It’s usual for a multiple treatments (somewhere around 8) to be grouped together over the course of just a couple weeks in the beginning in order to maximize collagen production. Each one would be about 20 to 30 minutes long. Then, a single maintenance treatment every two months or so can be enough to extend the effects and keep the collagen levels at their peak.
Omnilux light therapy is an effective way to fight back against aging. It helps to firm up skin tissue and smooth out those lines and wrinkles that creep up on us when we’re not looking. Omnilux can be a real help in keeping our complexions smoother and brighter for years to come.
